校长来信Buffalo Seminary写给中国学生家长

这是一封写给SEM在读中国学生家长的信件：

Greetings from Buffalo Seminary! The third trimester is well underway, and our students are busy as we move into spring.

来自布法罗女校的问候！第三个季度正在进行中，我们的学生正忙碌的进入春季学期。

Our students are excelling academically. Feiya (Catherine) Wang '17, won Buffalo Seminary's winter 2017 American Mathematics Competition with the highest score on the mathematics exam. 15 students competed in the Science Olympiad competition, including Jiaan (Angela) Shi '17, Yao (Lisa) Xiao '17, and Shannon Shao '19. In the fall, we inducted 6 new students into the Cum Laude Society, including Xinyang (Amber) Ye '17. Xinyang (Amber) Ye '17also received the Student Achievement Recognition award from Erie and Niagara Counties, awarded to the top students in the region. 

我们非常骄傲的看到学生们在学术上的卓越表现，Feiya (Catherine) Wang '17以数学最高分赢得了2017年冬季美国数学比赛。15个学生参加了科学奥林匹亚比赛，包括3个中国学生：Jiaan (Angela) Shi '17,  Yao (Lisa) Xiao '17, 和Shannon Shao '19。秋季，我们有6名新学生进入了美国优等毕业生协会，包括1名中国学生Xinyang (Amber) Ye '17, 同时也获得了伊利和尼亚加拉县学生成绩优秀奖，这是本地区办法给最优秀学生的奖励。

We have 70 students taking 19 Advanced Placement courses this year and 30 AP scholars. Our curriculum continues to challenge our students with innovative and experiential course offerings. Electives prepare our students for college and beyond: for example, in the new Technology and Entrepreneurship course, students designed, built, and marketed their own apps. SEM's Capstone program debuted this year. The student spends her first three years gaining research and academic writing skills across the curriculum, reflecting on her interests and talents to refine an area of study, and then designs an independent project which culminates her senior year.

今年，我们有70名学生参加了19门AP课程，并有30名学生获得AP scholars荣誉，我们的创新和实践课程持续带给学生很多挑战。我们有很多课程帮助学生为大学做好充分准备，比如学生自己设计制作并宣传推广他们的app应用。学校的Capstone program今年初次登场。学生利用前3年的实践累积研究和学习技巧，跨学科写作技巧，最后1年则在自己感兴趣和擅长的领域内独立设计项目。

Our students are also busy outside of the classroom. Xinyang (Amber) Ye '17 and Jiaan (Angela) Shi '17 play with the prestigious Greater Buffalo Youth Orchestra, where Angela is the principal oboe. Last year, our Model United Nations team placed second overall in competition, and Veronica Zhang '19 won an award for outstanding performance. Our Mock Trial team has also excelled – they made it the regional quarterfinals where they had a strong performance. Our whole school community recently celebrated the Lunar New Year with a morning of both traditional and contemporary Chinese music, dance, and presentations. 

在课堂外，我们的学生也十分忙碌，Xinyang (Amber) Ye '17 and Jiaan (Angela) Shi '17加入了著名了大水牛城青年管弦乐队。去年我们的模拟联合国团队获得第二名的成绩，我们的模拟法庭团队也在地区四分之一决赛中表现优异。我们来集体庆祝了中国新年，表演了传统和当代的中国音乐，舞蹈。

SEM students are also doing well in their athletic pursuits. Our SEM basketball team recently went the Monsignor Martin finals – Jiani Lu '18 was an integral member of the team. Our soccer team won the Monsignor Martin League championships. The fencing team, which includes Xinyang (Amber) Ye '17, Kexin (Veronica) Zhang '19, Zeyun (Zoey) Liu '18, Jin (Christina) Cai '18, Zhiting (Elf) Dong '18, and Miao Yu '17, and Yixuan (Rebecca) Li '18,  recently competed in an epee and foil tournament in Rochester, NY. In 2016, the tennis team won their league for both singles and doubles, and Zeyun (Zoey) Liu '18 was the singles champion. Our newest team, ping-pong, founded by our residential students, is also doing well and has competed in a number of tournaments.

College acceptances continue to come in for our senior students. Our Chinese students have many impressive acceptances so far, including Beloit College (WI), Hofstra University (NY), Illinois Weslyan University, Pennsylvania State University, SUNY Buffalo, SUNY Stony Brook, Syracuse University, Temple University (PA), the University of Delaware, the University of New Hampshire, the University of Pittsburgh, the University of Toronto (Canada), Virginia Commonwealth University, and the College of Wooster (OH). We expect our students to continue to receive many other good college placements as well.

大学升学方面，我们2017届的中国学生已经拿到很多优秀的大学录取，包括：Beloit College (著名文理学院），Hofstra University（主办了2次美国总统竞选辩论），Illinois Weslyan University (著名文理学院）， Pennsylvania State University（综合排名45）,  SUNY Buffalo, SUNY Stony Brook, Syracuse University, Temple University , the University of Delaware, the University of New Hampshire, the University of Pittsburgh, the University of Toronto (Canada), Virginia Commonwealth University, and the College of Wooster (OH).我们期待更多大学的录取 结果。

This success is in keeping with our previous years' college acceptances. SEM students have a long tradition of attending and excelling at many selective and prestigious universities. In the past, our Chinese students have gone on to study at colleges and universities like Boston University, Emerson College, Gettysburg College, Indiana University Bloomington, Long Island University, Loyola University Chicago , Michigan State University, Middlebury College, Northeastern University, The Ohio State University, Pace University , Pennsylvania State University, Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute, Rutgers University - New Brunswick, Syracuse University, San Francisco State University, Simmons College, the University of Alabama, the University of Connecticut, the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign, the University of Miami, the University of North Carolina School for the Arts, the University of Oregon, the University of Toronto (Canada), and the University of Washington.

SEM has also recently completed a major renovation and restoration of our urban campus. The new Magavern-Sutton Courtyard opened at the beginning of this academic year. It links our school building with the five student and faculty residences to unify our Elmwood Village campus. The chapel, where our entire school community gathers each morning to start the day, was restored over the summer. 

我们最近刚刚完成了一个重要的翻新和校园设施重建，全新的Magavern-Sutton Courtyard 今年开放了，它连接着我们的教学楼和5个学生和教职工宿舍，教堂 是我们每天早餐集合的地方，也在今年夏天翻新了。
