可能很多家长会在咨询的过程中或者搜寻学校介绍信息时，会听到说这所学校很不错，是“天主主教高中前50”的学校。但是很多家长并不清楚这个称谓的来由及评判标准。
“天主主教高中前50”这个荣誉起源于2004年，是由美国的The Cardinal Newman Society （天主教红衣教主协会）评选的，可以入围的都是在学术、教义和公民教育方面有着卓越表现的学校。
最新的这个天主教高中前50学校是2012-2013年的版本。学校涵盖了大型的小型的、历史悠久的和建校比较新的、高费用及性价比高的各类天主教高中。学校分布在美国21各州，宾州入围学校最多，有7所，其次是德州和密歇根州，分别为5所和6所。具体名单如下：
